The Millennium Education – Pakistan

Penny Butterworth Leads ‘Maximising Learning and Exam Performance’ OxfordAQA CPD for TME Academic Leaders

Academic leaders from across The Millennium Education network gathered at Future World School, DHA Phase 5, Islamabad, for a focused Continuing Professional Development programme aimed at strengthening teaching, assessment and student performance across the organisation.

The *Maximising Learning and Exam Performance* CPD was led by **Penny Butterworth, Regional Professional Development Manager at OxfordAQA**, and brought together education leaders from TME campuses across the country for a day of professional dialogue, reflection and practical academic development.

At the centre of the programme was a clear question: how can strong classroom practice translate into stronger examination outcomes?

Participants examined the relationship between teaching quality, effective assessment, purposeful feedback and examination technique, while considering how a deeper understanding of learner performance can enable schools to intervene earlier and more effectively. The session encouraged academic leaders to view examination success not as the product of short-term preparation, but as the result of consistent teaching, careful monitoring and sustained academic support.

Discussions explored how educators can use assessment more intelligently to identify gaps in learning, respond to student misconceptions and adapt classroom practice accordingly. Particular attention was also given to feedback, its timing, its purpose and its role in helping learners understand not only where improvement is needed, but how that improvement can be achieved.

For academic leaders, the programme extended beyond classroom methodology. It also examined the responsibility of leadership in establishing consistent academic expectations, strengthening instructional practice and ensuring that assessment remains closely aligned with intended learning outcomes.

Butterworth brought OxfordAQA’s international assessment perspective to the session, offering participants practical insights into examination expectations and the ways in which teaching, learner readiness and assessment strategy can be brought into closer alignment.

The gathering carried particular significance as The Millennium Education continues to expand its OxfordAQA journey across 12 schools. Bringing leaders together at this stage created an important opportunity to develop shared understanding across the network and strengthen consistency in academic practice.

The CPD also reflected TME’s wider emphasis on continuous professional learning and collaborative leadership. By creating opportunities for educators to examine practice collectively, share perspectives and respond to evidence, the organisation continues to place academic improvement at the centre of its educational strategy.

The message emerging from the session was both simple and significant: examination performance begins in the classroom. Better outcomes are built through stronger teaching, meaningful assessment, informed feedback and leadership that keeps learning at the heart of every academic decision.
